Die Wartezeit auf das erste Album der Berliner Minimalelektroniker von DIN [A] Tod war relativ lang. Nach dem Release ihrer Debüt-Vinyl-Maxi im Jahre 2005 hatte sich das Trio aber ganz bewusst viel Zeit gelassen, um an ?The Sound of Crash? zu feilen. Zeit, die sinnvoll investiert wurde, denn das Endprodukt ist nicht nur ein Austesten von Grenzen und eine intelligente Auseinandersetzung mit den Themen Macht und Hysterie ? sondern es ist auch ein vielseitiges und Club-taugliches Album geworden ? eine leichtfüßige Gratwanderung zwischen Diskurs und Party. Von bis auf die Knochen reduzierten Tanzflächenfüllern à la ?Creation Crucifixion?, bei denen die schnoddrige Coolness der frühen Achtzigerjahre auf ein minimalistisches Beat-Box- Gerüst trifft, über Pop-infizierte Electroclash-Nummern wie ?Carol?s Fascination? oder ?Tragic Blue?, bis hin zu EBM-Monstern von epischer Bandbreite wie ?Ephedrine Logic?, zeigt sich die Band erstaunlich wandlungsfähig. Zielsicher verweben DIN [A] Tod die verschiedenen Stilelemente aus Electroclash, New Wave, Minimal Electro und EBM zu einem atmosphärisch äußerst dichten Netz. ?The Sound of Crash? verbreitet dabei eine ganz eigentümliche und vor allem eigenständige Stimmung, die man bei den meisten der heutigen Hochglanzproduktionen vergeblich sucht. Es ist ein Sound, der sich durch die Hintertür einschleicht, und der dann unweigerlich fesselt und mitreißt. It has been a rather long wait for the Berlin-based Minimal Electro group DIN [A] Tod to finally release their first long play album. After putting out their debut maxi on 10? vinyl in 2005, the trio deliberately chose to give the recording of ?The Sound of Crash? all the time it would need. Listening to the final product, one has to agree that this time was well employed: the group?s debut album is not only an intelligent examination of the themes of power and hysteria and a constant trip across all possible boundaries ? but also a highly addictive and versatile collection of music that will feel at home in any club. DIN [A] Tod display an enormous musical bandwidth? from minimalist dance floor burners like ?Creation Crucifixion? that mingle the laconic coolness of the early Eighties with a beat-box-heavy song frame that has been stripped down to the bone, via Pop-infused Electro Clash tunes like ?Carol?s Fascination? or ?Tragic Blue?, to epic EBM-monsters like ?Ephedrine Logic.? Cunningly, the band interweaves elements of Electro Clash, New Wave, Minimal Electro and EBM into a tight net of atmospheric sounds. ?The Sound of Crash? has that kind of very peculiar and distinctive feel that many of today?s glossy Pop productions are direly lacking.
