‘They seem to have stumbled upon the perfect formula for the indie-rock disco anthem.’? NME
The WOMBATS will release their new single ‘Moving To New York’ on 14th January 2008 through 14th Floor Records. The single is the first to follow the release of their debut album The WOMBATS Proudly present…A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation, and the success of recent UK Top 20 single ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’. ‘Moving To New York’ is a song that fully encapsulates The WOMBATS’ ethos of writing infectiously catchy and scuzzy indie-pop songs, served with an acid-wit that masks dark lyrical undertones of romantic despair and heartache. The track will be backed with the band’s version of Bryan Adams’ ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’, and remixes that include a stunning re-working by Paul Van Dyk.
2007 has been an incredible year for The WOMBATS. Starting the year back in February as the first unsigned band ever to sell out the 1,200 capacity Liverpool Carling Academy, the band have toured tirelessly ever since. In the second half of the year alone they completed a 53-date headline tour, co-headlined a tour with The Holloways, and supported The Enemy on the NME Rock’n’Roll Riot tour. They also managed to fit in a series of dates in the US, as well as festival appearances at Fuji Rocks, Glastonbury, V Festival, Get Loaded in the Park and Bestival.
The WOMBATS will be capping off a phenomenal 2007 in style with a completely sold-out 11-date UK tour in December, including a date at London’s KOKO on 7th December – bringing their final tally to 270 gigs this year!

With their debut album being described rapturously by The Fly as ‘one of the most intelligent bands around at the moment’ whilst The Times called it ‘a smart collection of danceable indie pop packed with hummable melodies, harmonies and lyrical wit’, The WOMBATS’ success story looks set to escalate even further in 2008: they will kick off the year by playing to 100,000 people from a carpark roof in Liverpool for the opening event of the Capital of Culture festivities.
The WOMBATS are Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass, vocals) and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals).
