After two long years, And Also The Trees, the classic postpunk/wave band from england, came back to germany for a little tour and on November 23rd, we had the chance to see them at the Zeche in Bochum. The band has just released their newest album "(Listen For) The Rag And The Bone Man" (cd review will follow soon) and presented an awesome set of new songs, but also lots of classics. The perfect mixture of melancholic guitar-works and Simon Huw Jones’ striking voice is what makes an And Also The Trees gig so fascinating. Back in the days, Simon wasn’t able to look at the audience during their gigs, which he has put aside for quite a while now, yet he still mostly sings with his eyes closed, a sign for the huge intensity in the songs and his passionate voice.

The Zeche was well attended with mostly people in their 30s or 40s. And the crowd enjoyed every second of this almost 100 minutes long gig, which was almost a trip back in time, back to the 80s, but always peppered with modern sounds so that it didn’t sound frumpy at all. And Also The Trees still hit the nerve these days and that is one of the biggest compliments you can give to a band that has been around for almost 30 years now.
