The OMD Live DVD which was filmed at London’s Hammersmith Apollo earlier this year is unlikely to see a release date prior to 2008. The band were not happy with the visual editing so the footage is going to be re-edited. It’s unfortunate that a lot of people who are waiting on the DVD will be frustrated, but the concern is that this release should be the best document of the Architecture And Morality tour.
Meanwhile, the OMD Documentary has a revised release date of October 1st according to producer Rob Finighan. The Limited Edition DVD will be selling for £19.99. More details via: www.omd-dvd.com.
OMD will be contributing towards The Number One Project – a combined venture that will see the launch of a major charity single in January: a double A side release featuring a new version of the You?ll Never Walk Alone performed by a host of Liverpool artists lead by the legendary Gerry Marsden while the Double A part of the release is the classic Anyone Who Had a Heart performed by Atomic Kitten and produced by Ian Broudie.
The single will be followed by an album entitled Covers and Collaborations ? The Number One Album, a celebration of Liverpool?s world record for being the city with the most number of chart topping singles (56). The album will feature unique cover versions of each of the 56 number 1 singles.
OMD’s contribution according to Andy McCluskey will be a "retro/electro" version of the Atomic Kitten song Whole Again. The original single, which was penned by Andy and Stuart Kershaw, went to No. 1 in February 2001 and appears on the Kitten’s debut album Right Now.
The Number One Project aims to raise at least £1 million to distribute among 6 leading charities: Liverpool Echo Sunrise Appeal, Marina Dalglish Breast Cancer Appeal, Alder Hey Children?s hospital, Radio City?s Give A Child A Chance, Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust and Marie Curie Liverpool Hospice Appeal.
A charity concert is scheduled at Liverpool?s new Kings Dock Arena on January 19th where a wide variety of artists will perform the 56 number 1’s. OMD are in discussions to appear. More information is available here: www.thenumberoneproject.org
Members of OMD generously supported the Hillsborough Family Support Group and demonstrated their support by wearing eye-catching red wristbands. Bob McCluskey now writes to say that Andy McCluskey’s wristband is currently for sale on internet auction site eBay. It also comes with a Certificate of Authentication signed by Andy and all sales go to the Hillsborough FamilySupport Group. The link for the auction is here: Andy McCluskey’s wristband
